Reader question: what is sand Animation?

"the last night on YouTube I saw this painting woman with sand for half an hour." It was so impressive, and she made this picture who said he was done with the actual painting! She had some fifty pots of coloured sand and it seemed like it was just throw around, but it landed just to the right, and I thought it was too cool. I asked my friend later and she said that was called sand animation. What do you know about it?"

Well, I know technically it is not an animation, although people often call the art of sand painting performance "sand animation."
